Maj. Gen. Ken Staten explains to Korean visitors some of
the history and current workings of his farm,
Lilac Hill, located
on Highway 5 just outside Fayette. Looking on from left at rear:
Rotarian
Chuck Thompson (partly hidden), Rotary Assistant Governor Wayne
Lowen of Fulton, Rotarian Kurt Himmelmann, and Fayette Rotary President
Terry Furstenau.
The
Fayette Rotary Club on March 25 hosted a
Rotary International Group
Study Exchange team from
South Korea. The
group listened to a presentation from
Howard County resident
Kenneth Staten of Lilac Hill in which he compared U.S. and Korean
agriculture.
The team also had an opportunity to judge premium Hereford bulls.
Then it was on to a tour of the CMU’s Ashby-Hodge Gallery of
American Art led by
curator Joe Geist. Afterward, the team enjoyed lunch at Emmet’s Kitchen
& Tap.
The group was hosted by Fayette Rotary President Terry Furstenau, in
addition to Chuck Thompson and Kurt Himmelmann. Thompson and
Himmelmann both have spent time in Korea.
The team from overseas will spend two weeks living with Rotarians and
visiting cities throughout Central Missouri.
Rotary Group Study Exchange is a district level program that
encourages the exchange of young professionals to visit and learn about
other cultures. The Missouri team will be leaving for Korea at the end
of April. Leading the
Korean GSE Team was Rotarian Chan Yeol Choi (“David”), director
of a private school. The team members are Won Kyung Yeo,
high school teacher;
Young Joo Park , district official for volunteerism; Jung Ae Lee, child
welfare center official; and Yun Jae Jun, team official for Samsung SDS.
